On occassion, we get to restore woodwork that comes from lesser known manufacturers who obviously put their mark on automtotive history.  Not only were these vehicles manufactured in very limited quantities, but many of them excelled in styling and performance.....and often, as a crowning touch, they included woodwork in their interiors !

 

Here is one of the few pictures we could find that shows some of the woodwork that came in a Borgward.  Again, if you have pictures to share with us, we will gladly update this page.

Above is the full set of 1959 Borgward Isabella Woodwork BEFORE we restored the parts.   At one time, this was a gorgeous set, but you can see the there is some pretty extensive water damage and the finish as come off in many places.  Fortuantely, the veneer is still bonded well to the substrate and the substrate is in "sound" condition.

Here you can see a close-up of the long curved trim panels from this set of 1959 Borgward Isabella woodwork. The color and grain pattern have pretty much faded away on most of the parts of this set.  Once we restore them, the color and grain pattern, will "come back to life".

The "A" pillar panels from this set of 1959 Borgward Isabella woodwork were in remarkably good condition, except for the fact that the grain pattern had pretty much faded away.  Often wood trim that surrounds a windshield, has severe water damage from a leaking windshield rubber seal.

These are the window trim panels from this set of 1959 Borgward Isabella woodwork.  Inset is a close-up of the end of the window trim panel at the top of this picture.  Because this panel got less exposure to the sun, it shows more grain pattern and color than the rest of the parts.  Even then, it has lost much of its' medium brown color.

The water damage and finish delamination on these "J" panels from this set of 1959 Borgward Isabella woodwork is very evident.

The finish on this curved trim panel from this set of 1959 Borgward Isabella woodwork has turned "milky" and is flaking off.

Above is a close-up of the door trim panels from this set of 1959 Borgward Isabella woodwork.  Again, you can see substantial water damage.  Fortunately the substrate was not damaged.
